Behold another "hidden" gem, I couldn't find it on youtube so.. here it is! The song is from the "Revolutionary Zap Pow" album released in 1971 on the Harry J label. If you like this song I highly recommend the entire album! Legal disclaimer: I do not own the rights to this song or anything associated to it. I just want people to listen and enjoy, uploaded under fair use.

This is the digital remastered version of Barrington Levy's "Moonlight Lover". Not the crappy 1986 version, but the real deal, the 1979 version (remastered 2006). Loads of credit to pablo for posting the original tune on youtubes, you're a great guy for posting, but this one is a little bit different so here you go guys. The album is Shaolin Temple, the man is Barrington Levy, and the message i...

Here's another great (but hidden) gem, it's the Joe Gibbs All Stars with the awesome song "Hijacked". As you can hear this song is at the border between ska and reaggae, maybe ska.. but Joe Gibbs was known for his reggae so i'll tag this reggae! ..or both! Btw, sorry for posting this song, i know there's another version out there on youtube. I love the vinyl sound, but i had the cd.. and i just...
Joe Gibbs - If I Had A Hammer

This is a reggae version of the well known song If I Had A Hammer (duh). Joe Gibbs made this song early in his reggae carreer, and the song can be found in the album; "Joe Gibbs Scorchers From The Early Years". The song has a "classic ska sound" so enjoy this classic gem, make peace and unite.

I first heard this song about 15 years ago and thought then how true it is. I’m 75 years old and think is an appropriate song for the times our country is in now. A beautiful and poignant song. Just love it.

I came here from Randy Crawford’a beautiful cover from 1981, all those years I didn’t know it was a Roberta Flack original, until about 5 years ago. As far as the lyrics go, some things change, but these words are truer and unfortunate the last decade then even back then in the 70’s and 80’s. All of our traditions that our parents and grandparents us are blowing out with the tradewinds. The present young generation has no clue what’s right and wrong these days.

I remember when I was about 12 years old when I heard "Patches" by Clarence Carter for the first time, the song hit my little pea brain so powerfully that I cried. 41 years later, this song did the same to me( I have a bigger brain now though). No other song has ever had such an effect on me. The funny thing is I've heard this song before, by Lou Rawls and Randy Crawford, but Ms. Flack's rendition just does something to me. Thank you Mr Smith for posting this version. Thank you, Ms. Flack, for crooning a timeless ballad. I love you, God bless you eternally.

This song clearly paints the true picture of today's society, hate mass shootings and all the political unrest that's reaping havoc on our daily lives which in return only brings heartache and sorrow ,it's as if we have to ask ourselves do love exist in this vacuum of a bitter society, this is surely the tradewinds of our time.

One of the greatest interpreters of song in our time. Saw her at a fundraiser for Harlem Hospital at Riverside Church in 1977 where she opened with a cover on Melba Moore's hit "I am his Lady" and Roberta's cover was to this day the most perfectly rendered song I have ever heard. Her musicians looked almost like a random assortment of folks when they preceded her to the alter in the sanctuary of the chapel but when they picked up their instruments and she sat at the piano and sang that first lyric, she had us all for the rest of the evening. When she finished that first song, there was a moment of silence as if none of us could believe that we had just shared such an exquisite moment as her FIRST SONG and then the applause thundered so loud that they shook the stained glass! She never recorded the song and in many ways it made her performance of it even more special. It always seemed to be a mark of the greats that they could perform a song that someone else made popular and do it so much better that you cannot go back and listen to the other singer's version. What a brilliant talent this woman is.
